Welcome To WNS Elementary School!

Education has always been my passion, and I love working with children of all ages. Before coming to West Nairobi School, I taught in the American system for 11 years. I have taught elementary, middle and high school, and I worked in both public and private schools in the U.S. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in History and Spanish from Western Kentucky University and a Masters of Education in Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction from Trevecca Nazarene University. I am currently working on my Doctorate of Education in Leadership and Professional Practice and will complete my degree in August of 2021. I have served as both the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Elementary Principal at WNS. This marks my third year of service at West Nairobi School.

Blessings,

Charlene B. Mutai, Ed.D.

Learning Approach

learnappr2

Elementary school lays the foundation for future learning and gives children an opportunity to understand themselves as uniquely gifted children of God. A focus on building early literacy skills across subject areas sets students up to be successful as scholars and prepares them for a myriad of future opportunities. Our deeper goal is to equip students to be able to read God’s word for themselves, to get to know God’s character, and to listen for God’s heart for them as sinners who are hopeless apart from his redemptive plan for them, through Jesus Christ.

Subjects

Elementary students enjoy English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Bible, Swimming, PE, Art, Music, Kiswahlii, Computer, Library, and Social-Emotional Learning every week.

Learning Style

Our elementary classrooms thrive on differentiated instruction, where learning activities appeal to all different learning styles, and teachers provide frequent small-group instruction.

Foundation

The elementary years are the critical foundation for students becoming lifelong learners who understand their value and are equipped with tools for thriving in the 21st century.
